Parking passes on sale 4/29 for synchronous fireflies

Posted by  in EventsThings to Do

The Smoky Mountain Synchronous FirefliesIf you want to see a true “wonder of nature”, a beauty that can only be seen in a two known places in the whole world, then you need to see these fireflies. They are a rare species of firefly that seem to coordinate their blinking into a little Smoky Mountain show (all they need is some music!) around mid-June (the 6th through the 13th) each year. There’s only one other place in the world, Southeast Asia, in which this phenomenon can be seen. This species of fireflies has an internal “sensor” that let’s them know when a nearby firefly has lit, in which they respond with their own light as quickly as possible. It may take a minute for them to get in sync, but all of a sudden that start performing together with flashes that last as long as six seconds. This, in turn, presents an amazing wave of blinking lights that is truly astonishing.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park will again feature a reservation system this year, like last year, for viewing the fireflies. The on-line ticketing system, operated through Recreation.gov, will provide visitors with parking passes to guarantee they will be able to park at Sugarlands Visitor Center without having to arrive hours in advance. This pass is required for all vehicles. The number of passes issued each day will be based on the Sugarlands Visitor Center parking lot capacity. Parking passes for this year’s event will go on sale on-line at 10 am April 29. Passes may also be obtained by calling 1-877-444-6777. Some additional passes may be available the day before each event as well.

Arrowhead Cabin Rentals Is People and Pet Friendly

When I called Arrowhead Cabin Rentals, I was very impressed with the service. They able to answer all of my questions, even if they did not pertain to the actual rental.

I had never been to the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, and had no idea what to expect. All I knew was that I wanted to get away for a while and head to one of the most beloved destinations on the planet.

I discovered Arrowhead Cabin Rentals when I did an online search. There were plenty of other businesses that rented cabins, but Arrowhead was the only company that offered personalized service. When I called to enquire about dog-friendly vacation homes, they had an abundance of cabins to choose from. Because it was just me and Jasmine, that’s my toy poodle, spending a few days in Gatlinburg, I only needed a one-bedroom cabin, but if I ever need something bigger Arrowhead Cabin Rentals has two, three, and even seven bedroom vacation homes available that cater to dogs.

It was a tough decision to make and I had it narrowed down to two one-bedroom cabins, Snuggle Bear Hideaway and Treasured Moments. Both had an enclosed porch with a hot tub, which is something I had to have, but I finally decided on Snuggle Bear Hideaway and I was so glad that I did.

When Jasmine and I arrived our welcome package was waiting for us, and so were our groceries. I had arranged to have Smoky Mountain Grocery deliver all of our food right to the cabin so all we had to do was kick back and relax. The cabin was stunning and honestly, I didn’t want to leave. I spent plenty of time in front of the gas fireplace and more than a few hours in the hot tub. I was even able to grill up a steak for an afternoon lunch on a warm afternoon.

My visit to the Great Smoky Mountains included Dollywood, a trek on the Aerial Tramway and a hike in the National Park. I was even able to fit in a fun night at The Lumberjack Feud. Advertised as having the best food in the Smokies, I certainly wasn’t disappointed, and the show was fantastic.

Although my trip was too short, I am already planning my next visit. I want to go to the Great Smoky Mountains and try white water river rafting. I

know I will get all of the information I need thanks to the friendly folks at the Arrowhead Resort.

Like to play air hockey? It’s a popular tabletop sport, and many of the cabins at Arrowhead Cabin Rentals have air hockey tables. Here’s a quick overview of the history of the sport.

Though the history of the patents is a bit fuzzy, air hockey was invented by three Brunswick Billiards employees and engineers — Phil Crossman, Bob Kenrick, and Brad Baldwin. According to wikipedia, the project began in 1969, but stagnated until it was revived in 1972 by Brunswick’s Bob Lemieux, who wanted to bring the excitement of ice hockey home in a tabletop form. By the mid-1970s, air hockey had become a smash financial success, and tournament organizations had already started popping up.

If you’d like to hold your own impromptu tournament, there’s no better place to do it than at Arrowhead Cabin Rentals. “Brief Escape” has an air hockey table as well as a pool table and foosball too! GET A KICK OUT OF ARROWHEAD CABIN RENTALS

Some folks call it by a different name — like table football, table soccer, bar football, or “footzy” — but foosball is a fun pastime for young and old. And you can enjoy it at many of the cabins at Arrowhead Cabin Rentals.
According to wikipedia, the name “foosball” is a loose translation of a German word that means simply “football”. The game itself was invented by a gentleman in England named Harold S. Thornton in 1921. He’d been to a football (or soccer) match in Great Britain and wanted to bring the excitement of the game home in a miniature form. When he laid some matches across the side of a box, inspiration struck, and he later patented his creation in 1923.
Harold’s uncle Louis brought the idea to the United States and patented it in 1927. The patent eventually expired, but in the meantime the game erupted in popularity, and is even played in official competitions throughout the world. Today, table football occupies a place in many of the cabins at Arrowhead Cabin Rentals.
“Brief Escape” has a foosball table as well as a pool table and air hockey table too! It’s a seven-bedroom, seven-bath cabin that’s perfect for big groups. King, queen and sofa beds provide a good night’s sleep, or relax in the hot tub. The fully-equipped kitchen’s a fantastic place to fix dinner, or you might want to sizzle up some steaks on the three charcoal grills. Also, if you’re a nature lover, Arrowhead Cabin Rentals is a short drive away from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Along with its foosball table, “A Mountain Palace” offers a pool table and an arcade game. Challenge friends or family to a tournament! After the excitement, relax in the hot tub while you absorb the beauty of the Smokies, or kick back in the rocking chairs on the deck. You can also cook up the perfect meal in the well-equipped kitchen. This five-bedroom cabin is perfectly situated for spectacular views of the Smoky Mountains, so you’ll feel like you’re far away from the hustle and bustle of civilization. Like all the cabins at Arrowhead Cabin Rentals, “A Mountain Palace” will be a big part of a fun vacation.

So whichever

form of tabletop excitement you’re craving, make your goal this year to book Arrowhead Cabin Rentals for your next family or group getaway.

HIGH TIME FOR ARROWHEAD CABIN RENTALS

Pop quiz: What’s the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains? If you said Mount Le Conte, you’re close — it’s the third highest at 6,593 feet. The highest spot is Clingmans Dome, which at 6,643 feet is a cool, wet area covered with spruce-fir trees and only about 23 miles from Arrowhead Cabin Rentals.

Clingmans Dome is known for its cool temperatures; even in the heat of summer, the area can be as much as 20 degrees cooler than the surrounding lowlands. It’s a half-mile walk to the top, but on clear days the observation tower provides a breathtaking panoramic view of the Great Smoky Mountains. There are multiple hiking trails, including the great Appalachian Trail which crosses the Dome on its way from Georgia to Maine. Clingmans Dome is open year-round, but the road leading to it is closed during the winter months, so spring, summer and autumn are your best bets.

Whichever season you choose, pick Arrowhead Cabin Rentals for your mountain getaway. Whether you’re with family or friends, or just looking for a romantic stay with your sweetheart, a mountain cabin is a perfect choice. Cozy up in “Absolute Dream”, a one-bedroom hideaway with a charming fireplace, fully-equipped L-shaped kitchen, and a hot tub. There’s even a screened porch so you and your sweetie can relax, hold hands and enjoy the scenery. If you’re in a bigger group, rent a seven-bedroom, seven-bath cabin called “Brief Escape.” Choose from king, queen or sofa beds for a good night’s sleep, or relax in the hot tub. The fully-equipped kitchen’s perfect for a big meal, or you can fire up some steaks on up to three charcoal grills. For fun and excitement, there’s a game room with a pool table, a foosball table and air hockey too! Best of all for nature lovers, Arrowhead Cabin Rentals is just a short drive away from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Arrowhead Cabin Rentals is also just minutes away from the best that Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville has to offer. There’s Dollywood, of course, and Dolly’s Splash Country, both of which are sure to please; the Dixie Stampede and the Lumberjack Feud for great food, laughs and

entertainment; and for young ones, there’s no topping MagiQuest, which offers a Mirror Maze Adventure, blacklight indoor miniature golf, and even a Laser Challenge where kids can crawl, jump, squirm and squeeze their way past laser beams!

So if your friends quiz you about the best place for a getaway, the answer is the Great Smoky Mountains and Arrowhead Cabin Rentals! Now that’s a test you’ll pass with flying colors.

GETTING YOUR MONEY'S WORTH AT ARROWHEAD CABIN RENTALS

In hard economic times, getting the most out of your money is important. That’s why Arrowhead Cabin Rentals is the place to go for a much-needed vacation.

Unlike at Arrowhead Cabin Rentals, hotels and motels are risky propositions. The service is seldom what you hope for,

and the cleanliness of the rooms is variable at best. Need peace and quiet? Forget about it. You’ll most likely be cooped up in the same room like sardines, as unwanted noise assaults you through the thin walls of your room. In addition, there’s rarely anything to do in your room except stare at the TV set. No game room, no hot tub, no arcade games or pool table for the kids, no nothing. If the place has a pool, it may or may not be clean and safe, especially for children. And there’s no view, unless you like staring out your window at … a parking lot.

But happily, at Arrowhead Cabin Rentals, affordable doesn’t mean cheap. For example, if you rent A Mountain Palace, you get a cozy log cabin with relaxing views of the Great Smoky Mountains and lots of amenities. There’s an arcade game, a foosball table and a pool table to keep the kids entertained instead of bouncing off the walls from boredom at a motel. If you need to relax, stretch out in front of the fireplace or slip into the hot tub. If you’re hungry, cook burgers or steaks on the charcoal grill — no need to settle for fast food or junk from a snack machine. The secluded location grants you the solitude you need for a refreshing retreat from the noisy, workaday world.

Arrowhead Cabin Rentals also puts you near plenty of things to see and do. Not only is it just a short drive to Dollywood and Dolly’s Splash Country, but the Dixie Stampede, the Titanic, Wonder Works, the Hollywood Wax Museum, and lots of other attractions are close by. Ready for some fine dining? Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville have some of the country’s best restaurants. How about breakfast at the historic Old Mill Restaurant in Pigeon Forge? They know how to do breakfast right, whipping up biscuits, pancakes and other delights from their own ingredients like stone ground grain, sauces, jams and syrups.

Of course, you’ll have more than enough dough to take advantage of all this vacation goodness, ’cause our cabins won’t bust up your budget. So book Arrowhead Cabin Rentals today, for a vacation that’s worth every penny — and more!
